The horrible display of domestic terrorism that we witnessed yesterday forces the only recourse at this time and that is to join the surge to impeach Donald Trump again and remove him from office via the 25th amendment. Trump has abandoned his oath of office and is fully responsible for promoting yesterday’s insurgency, the needless bloodshed, and deaths. No rational person can agree with the inflammatory words throughout his tenure and leading up to the acts of domestic terrorism we saw yesterday. He again fanned the embers of violence to satisfy his selfish depravity. The fact is that he lost with the highest number of votes that any loser has ever received in a national election.

It is unthinkable that in the opening session of the 117th Congress, the invocation would end with ‘Amen and A-woman”. I understand the recent push to remove male-female words from the public proceedings, but to ‘genderize’ a word that has nothing to do with the current political trend toward gender inclusivity, is beyond comprehension and frankly offensive. To add insult to injury, the phrase was uttered by Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, who is an ordained Methodist minister. “Amen” is a Hebrew word that means, “so be it” and has been used by men and women clergypersons of various religious traditions to conclude a prayer. For a religious term to be dragged into the political arena, is completely unacceptable and should be repudiated. A-woman? So be it not!

SOMETHING TO PONDER (12/24/20)

On this Christmas eve, as I think about the sweeping pardons of convicted criminals and those that confessed to federal crimes like lying under oath to protect President Trump, juxtaposed against the five death-row inmates that the White House pushed for execution before Inauguration Day, one cannot help but conclude that privilege has its privileges. Privileged criminals go free while four black men and one mentally challenged woman are killed rather than given life in prison. Seems contrary to the Christmas narrative! Something to ponder!
